My goal at this point in my life is to build a shantyboat and retire in the Bocas del Toro achipelego in Panama. So, when I started this blog I concentrated on houseboats and shanty boats that are big enough to live on full time, or at least for extended periods of time. Naturally that isn’t the everyone’s goal. In rummaging around for hours online looking for fodder to keep this blog going, I keep running across a small “weekender” type of shantyboat called Harmonica.
It’s a Jim Michalak design. Jim, for those who don’t know has designed a ton of simple and easy (relatively) easy to build boats from the 8’X5.5′ nanoshanty Dockbox
To the 32′ Cormorant cabin sailboat
Bill Nolan of Oklahoma City, OK, built a Harmonica and did a fantastic job of documenting the process in the Duckworks wewebsite in six installments. Anyone looking for a sheltered-waters, trailerable getaway shantyboat shoult take a look.
