I Had No Idea

I had no idea there was a house boat culture in Canada. Here is a picture of several at Great Bear Lake via Canadian Mosaic, a very interesting blog by Tim Van Horn who has been on a 22-month Odyssey taking wonderful photos all across his country. Browsing through his blog is a great way to spend some time.

  1. Re: Houseboats in Canada

Try the wet coast – great central lake near Port Alberni – many right beside the road and lots more up the lake with boat access.

Alberni Inlet and Barklay Sound have many

Most inlets have at least a few

    The Fraser River has hundreds

A few dozen in False Creek, some in Victoria Harbour, some in Genoa Bay, Cowichan Bay, in and near Maple Bay, in many Gulf and northern island bays . . .

Thanks for the info. I’m sure there are lots of places around the world with houseboats and it’s always nice when someone, like yourself, lets us know where more of them are.

  2. Great photo. I own the orange one in the middle of the picture. For the record, the houseboats are on Great Slave Lake in the Northwest Territories, Canada.

    Fantastic!
